Most of us "hear." Few of us listen. A small piece about the difference, and what changed when I started giving sounds the same attention I had been giving thoughts.
The refrigerator. The radiator. The cat's breath. A short inventory of the sounds I never noticed in my own flat until I started looking for them.
Hum into your hands. Press them gently to your jaw. That's most of the practice. Why it works, and the small massage hidden inside it.
I started listening to my own breath through over-ear headphones and almost stopped. What it taught me, in the end, was about the body, not the breath.
